One of Manju's lesser known movies, Sammanam focuses more on Manoj K. Jayan, an unemployed youth- with an excellent academic record, nevertheless. His friend from childhood is an accursed elephant that is foretold to create much damage to Manoj's family. Manju has been Manoj's friend from childhood, and is slated to marry him in the not too distant future. The elephant kills his mahout, and trouble sprouts up. Pressurized to forsake his childhood companiion, Manoj is in dire straits. Things reach a head where Manju's marriage to him depends on his giving away the elephant. The young couple are distressed. The elephant finally looses himself from the domestic shackles that bind him and disappears from Manoj's life, after handing him his 'proprietary' brass chain hung around his neck.
